Project description: The reconstruction of the flood protection embankments in Jēkabpils was carried out to strengthen the city’s protection against flooding from the Daugava River and reduce flood risk. The work covered a total length of 6.4 kilometers, including 5.2 kilometers of the left-bank embankment and 1.2 kilometers of the right-bank embankment. The waterside slope of the left-bank embankment was reinforced with concrete designed for hydraulic structures and dolomite rock armor. Existing flood walls and flood protection systems were reconstructed, and new ones were built. Utility networks were rebuilt, and a drainage system was installed on the landside slope of the embankment. The project also included rebuilding existing stairs and constructing new ones, renewing the road surface on Pļaviņu Street, constructing a ramp, and installing landscaping features. Phytoremediation areas and a wetland were created on the waterside slope of the left-bank embankment along the Daugava River. These features complement the engineered flood protection measures while creating an improved and publicly accessible riverfront. Firma L4 provided construction supervision throughout the project, covering work on hydraulic structures, flood protection systems, drainage, utility networks, road surfacing and landscaping.
