Project completion period: 2021.-2023.
Project description: The Ventspils Seaside Open-Air Museum has acquired a new, multifunctional building that offers a modern and interactive approach to exploring history and nature. This is the only newly constructed museum building in Latvia in the past decade. Visitors have the opportunity to enjoy the museum's restored exhibits, which reflect the daily life and culture of the inhabitants of the Kurzeme coastline in various historical periods. The museum's collection consists of over 24,000 items. The building is designed to resemble a ship, reflecting the area's connection to the sea and its fishing heritage. It provides not only exhibition spaces but also restoration workshops, educational rooms, and storage facilities for preserving the museum's collection. To ensure the museum is accessible to all, an information stand with visual and audio content in five languages, as well as a raised-relief map with Braille instructions, has been installed. A specially developed mobile app enhances the visitor experience with additional information and interactive features during the walk through the museum's outdoor area. This project is a significant contribution to the preservation of cultural heritage, creating a modern and educational environment for all visitors.
