Project description: In Sigulda, on the Vidzeme Highway (A2) at the 49.9 km mark, a completely rebuilt railway overpass now provides not only safe traffic for drivers but also accessible infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists. The previous overpass, built in 1964, no longer met safety requirements, and its width was insufficient for pedestrian traffic. Therefore, it was decided to demolish it entirely and construct a new, modern, and safe infrastructure object. The new overpass has been built with reinforced concrete pile foundations, embankment supports, and an intermediate support structure. The span construction is made of monolithic prestressed concrete, with the total length of the span slab reaching 67.6 meters. The railway overpass is 9.9 meters wide, providing two 3.5-meter wide driving lanes, allowing for smooth and safe traffic flow. To enhance the safety of vulnerable road users, the overpass and its surrounding infrastructure are equipped with safety barriers and handrails that separate pedestrians and cyclists from the heavy traffic flow. The newly built infrastructure stretches 900 meters in length and is 3.2 meters wide. Asphalt concrete has been used for the surface, ensuring smooth and comfortable movement. The new infrastructure is connected to the existing pedestrian and cycling lanes on Noliktavu and Mazā Saules streets, providing a seamless and convenient connection across both sides of Sigulda, improving mobility options and promoting sustainable mobility in the city.
