Project completion period: 2021.-2023.

Project description: The Ķekava bypass is one of the most significant infrastructure projects in Latvia and the first high-speed road segment in the country, marked with road sign No. 552 "High-Speed Road." The bypass is part of the Bauska highway (A7), which connects Riga with the Lithuanian border (Grenctāle), and its total length is 17.2 kilometers. The project was implemented using the "design-build-finance-maintain" (PPP) model, becoming the first public-private partnership road construction project of its kind in the Baltic States. To ensure road safety and it's monitoring, the bypass is equipped with modern technologies, including more than 20 video surveillance cameras, two weather stations, and sensors that track traffic flow and allow for real-time monitoring of road conditions. The bypass route features an 8-kilometer-long pedestrian and cyclist lane, as well as noise cancelling barriers and earth embankments over a distance of 7.5 kilometers, ensuring the comfort of residents and reducing noise levels. During construction, more than 900 light units were installed, along with 40 kilometers of metal and 4 kilometers of concrete safety barriers, and a 27-kilometer-long animal fence. Landscaping works included planting more than 550 trees and 1,000 shrubs. Innovative materials and technologies were used in the implementation of the project, including using recycled PET bottles for the production of bridge railings and wood chip sound absorbers were used in the noise barriers.
